Planning Consent for IED Chapter IV (WID) Compliant Renewable Energy Facility

We are pleased to announce that we have secured planning consent for Merthyr Biomass Ltd for a renewable energy facility fuelled by waste wood at their site near Merthyr Tydfil. The facility will be fully-compliant with Chapter IV of the Industrial Emissions Directive (formerly covered by the Waste Incineration Directive (WID)) and will produce renewable heat energy from Grade C waste wood received from companies operating in the local area.
As a Major development we undertook a formal Pre-Application Consultation process in accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (Wales) Order 2012 whereby we engaged extensively with neighbours, local representatives and technical consultees to develop the proposal prior to its submission to Merthyr Tydfil CBC. A detailed Air Quality Assessment, Waste Planning Statement and Pre-Application Consultation Report accompanied the statutory application documents.

After due consideration of the planning and technical information, the Local Authority were satisfied that the development would not result in any unacceptable impacts on the amenity of nearby residents or on the local environment. Members of the Planning Committee voted unanimously to approve the application and we thank both the Officers and Committee Members for the diligent and expedient way in which they considered this application.
